GM everyone. The gym was a ghost town this morning, literally an all fellas crowd. Was everyone hungover or still coming home from Charli XCX’s Boiler Room set last night? Anyway, let’s get into some news—
Footwear News asked fashion insiders about the hottest men’s shoe trends for Spring. The resounding trend here is that elevated footwear (boots, loafers, etc.) are going to be big this Spring. SSENSE’s vice president of menswear buying, Federico Barassi, touted the popularity of Our Legacy’s Camion boot.
Mytheresa’s menswear director, Sophie Jordan, said loafers are still dominating sales and gave a special shoutout to the classic Gucci horsebit loafer. I think these are interesting as I’ve seen some great dressed-down styling with these. This Lawrence Schlossman fit shows these can be worn with dressed down attire.
Barassi went on to say that the slim footwear moment will continue (think little Sambas, big pants) but can be elevated with a low-profile, petite shoe like the Lemaire piped loafer. I am currently in the market for a new loafer, with some options in mind. I’ll be going shopping this weekend.
The Prada show was intensely hat forward. I don’t love the hats used on nearly every look but this leather jacket is really hot. There are a few people I’d love to see in this.
Premiere Pro can now directly export to TikTok. For all of my short form video out there in the Adobe trenches, the editing software now offers overlays so you can ensure your content fits on screen, and can directly export and upload to short form video platforms. The new feature lets you add captioning, hashtags, and apparently does not handicap performance. I’ll try this out today.
Gen Z has found a new way to learn calculus. A new crop of AI-driven celebrity deep fakes is going viral online, this time with a twist: they’re teaching complex math. This video linked above is an edited conversation between Kim Kardashian and Kanye West in which the two break down how to find the area under a curve. Part of me wants to bash this, but I can’t lie I would prefer to learn Calculus this way than from a boring teacher. Whoever thought of this is a genius, but will struggle to monetize this concept given the obvious copyright issue.

Emily Oberg, founder of Sporty & Rich, will chronicle the things, foods, routines, and places she’s loving on a new Substack called ‘Emily Loves’ I am obviously subscribed and excited to read. I don’t want to connect any dots here, but I did talk to her about Substack just a few weeks ago…
New Balance saw a 23% increase in sales in 2023. The brand had $6.5B in sales last year. I would attribute this to their push for lower cost sneaker modes. I see the 9060 (ugly) and the 2002r everywhere in NYC. It’s crossed a threshold to normies. I remember being ruthlessly made fun of when I pulled out the 990 v4s in college. I find New Balance’s output to be a bit stale, especially the Teddy Santis designed product. It’s very high quality, but some of the colorways are a little tooooo perfect. I’m getting to the point where I just like some funky footwear. I think Asics’ Gel Kayano 14 is a better look if you’re looking for a ‘dad’ shoe. I will say their new Miu Miu collab looks really good. I also love the art direction for their new campaign, with the shoe worn on a cozy, white bed. A lot of people didn’t like it.
Okay that’s all from me today. I have reservations at The Odeon tonight so me and one other lucky person will be eating copious amounts of fries and tipping back some martinis. Have a great weekend!
