Today is the NYC marathon and while Iβm currently enjoying some mimosas cheering on my fellow runners, I cannot pass up on tapping into the zeitgeist and doing a running themed post.
Today I want to give some flowers to one of the coolest running and activewear brands out: District Vision & Minted NY
My personal favorites when blasting miles at Central Park or Equinox.
District Vision
Founded as an experiment in 2014, Max Vallot and Tom Daly both worked in fashion marketing (Acne Studios, Saint Laurent) before reassessing their heavy nightlife regimen, picking up running and meditation, and founding the best looking running gear out.
District Vision eschews highly technical aesthetics, opting to use an interesting illustrative art style as their logo and as details on the garments.
They have done collaborations with designer like Sam Jayne, design director at Something Special Studios.
I really like their photography, showing their gear on athletes in desert or mountain landscapes.
and overall I think they are bringing a refreshing POV in a crowded running gear space.
Minted NY
Similarly founded by two bros, Marcus and Shawn Milione founded Minted NY as a post-college experiment.
They began by printing their logo on Nike Dri-fit tees but have now expanded, offering a range of athletic gear and even cut and sew menswear and loafers.
The best part about Minted NY is their content and community.
Marcus regularly posts about ups and downs of the business, often showing off early samples and crowd sourcing feedback, but also his own athletic journey through some great video content.
They also host a weekly run club I go to, which effectively builds a sense of community for the brand.
