GM everyone hope you’re having a great day.
Here’s what you need to know this morning—
Looking for job? Buckingham Palace is hiring. In the midst of the viral ‘Where’s Kate Middleton’ story, and the botched photoshop news outlets pulled, the royal family is looking to hire a media assistant. The only issue? It only pays $31k a year. Yes, our friends across the pond make significantly less than us Americans.
Soho House is becoming more accommodating to remote workers. The global membership club is rolling out dedicated workspaces and hot desks in NYC and LA clubs, giving members day passes to their Soho Works spaces, and redesigning spaces for more seating. Soho House has faced various challenges over the last few months, including a falling stock price, $92M loss, and a particularly scathing short seller report comparing their business model to that of WeWork. In response, leaders are also considering taking the company private again. I am shocked its taken this long for Soho House to adapt to remote workers. I’ve considered getting a membership in the past to have a place to work…
Hermes is being sued for not selling enough bags. Ever tried purchasing a $30,000 Birkin bag from Hermes? Yeah, me either. And even if you had the cash, you may find purchasing the bag difficult. A new antitrust lawsuit against the luxury brand claims bags are sold disproportionately to past customers. This model of rewarding customers with extensive purchase histories is nothing new. We’ve seen the same tactics for other brands like Rolex, who famously reserve high-tier stock for loyal customers. This antitrust lawsuit has the potential to bring a change to how luxury brands create implied scarcity and artificial demand. Here’s a tip: your pristine Birkin bag looks tacky. Buy it used.
UPDATE FROM MONDAY’S STORY ON NYC’S BIGGEST SCAMMER: Superiority Burger has parted ways with Ashwin Deshmukh after a scathing New York Times story alleged the downtown socialite scammed investors all over the city. I had a few people DM me saying they were shocked at the news as they had personally known him. Not that well apparently!
Wake up babe… a new content format just dropped. The matrix is about as simple as it gets, just two lines, 4 quadrants, and the fun begins. I’ve been seeing this used to plot out the matrix of mens footwear, now brands are hopping on the trend, making branded content of their own with this format. Cash in before this wave crests.
Stella Artois is the new face of Stella Artois. The brands new ad campaign (created by Gut) flips the expectation of the celebrity endorsed product campaign on its head, showing cropped photos highlighting a case of one of the greatest beers the world has seen. But, Stella does actually have a new celeb endorsee, David Beckham, you just wouldn’t know that from the ads. If you want to make a bold statement in advertising, take a look at what everyone else is doing, and subvert their expectations.
