Is That Video of You Real?
OpenAI's new video generator, CH panties, vintage Vogue, and more...
GM EVERYONE HAPPY FRIDAY! There’s a new YEAT album titled 2093 out now and it feels like I’m listening to the future. I’ll be blasting this all day as I lock in and work all day. Tonight I’ll be getting pasta and spending a lot of time in Brooklyn over the weekend. Let’s get into the news—
OpenAI is previewing their new generative video tool called Sora. This new tool is not open to the public yet but the videos previewed are shocking. Sora let’s users generate 60 second, photo realistic videos with text prompts. The world’s leading AI company (valued at $100B) previewed examples ranging from a POV of a Japanese train, a cat in bed, two pirate ships in a sea of coffee, and a movie trailer-esque video of an astronaut. The implications for a tool like this are massive and affect each and every one of us whether we realize it yet or not. Take a look back at gen-AI videos from a year ago. They are horrible, wobbly messes. Just a year later we are witnessing exponential improvements, and can expect a year from now these tools will be next-level. Sora could potentially be used to replace stock footage websites, create visuals for movies and TV, as well as generate deepfake videos of politicians, world events, or someone committing a crime. What does the future look like when we no longer believe what we see? How does cinema evolve when ANYONE can generate movie quality visuals without leaving their bedroom. Can we begin to question our own reality? If a simulation we create can generate expansive AI worlds, can we be sure we aren’t in a simulation ourselves? It’s scary times and it’s going to keep getting stranger now that this genie is out of the bottle. How many years till we reach the singularity? I’ll be writing more on this topic soon.
Chrome Hearts is launching a lingerie collection. The new collection features a $220 G-string and $990 teddy. We are about to see sultry Instagram photos of these very soon. Fellas wyd when she texts you she’s wearing the full CH lingerie set?
Sydney Sweeney and Ford’s CEO did a podcast. With a staggering *checks notes* 1,400 views in 9 days, you could say Ford’s content team needs a revamp. First of all, why does Ford’s CEO have a podcast? Second of all, you have one of the most popular celebrities who just generated millions of impressions and a viral meme when she appeared on the Hot Ones podcast, and you don’t do a video podcast? And upload clips on social? Get your act together Ford.
Highsnobiety covered the Scarr’s Pizza Omakase spinoff. When Scarr’s pizza moved from their original Orchard St. location, they kept the old venue and partnered with renowned sushi chef Kei Yoshino to launch Sushi Oku. I loveeeeee omakase but have not had a chance to dine here yet. I’ll be making a trip there soon and give my review. One of my fav omakase spots is nearby, its called No Name.
Vintage fashion magazines are the new art craze. Financial Times wrote about the skyrocketing prices of vintage Vogue, i-D, and more obscure vintage magazines and the collector’s supplying them to celeb buyers (one collector sold six vintage Vogue’s to Nick Jonas for $1,800) Personally, I love this and use old magazines as a major source for creative direction. I like to collect vintage Interview magazines and keep them in my mid-century, Danish bedside table with a magazine slot. Yeah I’m sick like that.
This chocolate bar company fought back a $2M recall and made an incredible video. Mid-Day squares nearly had their square chocolate energy bars recalled due to pistachio contamination, but got a DNA lab to conduct a test and prove they were nut-free. Along the way, they created an incredible short form video detailing their journey. More brands need to document their struggled and business triumphs with compelling short form content like this. People connect with an authentic story, and this will drive WAYYYYYY more sales than lame photos of their product on Instagram.
Okay that’s all for today! Have a great weekend 😇
