L.L. Bean’s Giant Boot Car
Charli xcx for Skims
What is Magnesium?
Who is raising money?
and some vibes…
What’s good playas hope you’ve been locked in grinding all week and are gearing up to enjoy the fruits of your Labor on this blessed sunny Friday.
Whether you’re going to the pub w the homies and getting a couple pints or perhaps enjoying some penne alla vodka at Bar Pitti, this is everything I found interesting this week—
Side Note: I want to thank Joe and the Juice and Potion for inviting me to the US Open this week. We drove out to Arthur Ashe Stadium in Queens on the Joe and the Juice bus and had an incredible view of the Mix Madness tournament. We linked up with Nick Kyrgios, who in partnership with Joe and the Juice, launched The Big Smash smoothie.
With the US Open about to go down… there’s no better time to head to Joe and the Juice, get a delicious Big Smash smoothie, throw on your Sporty & Rich tennis collection set, and head out to the tourney.
This Week in Business
Peter Rahal’s new protein bar company, David, raised $10M in seed funding. After selling Rx Bar for an insane amount of money, Rahal is back with a new high protein bar with incredible packaging and art direction. If you want a deeper dive on it go read ’s newsletter from yesterday.
Salt+Stone received a minority investment from Humble Growth. While the terms of the deal are not public, Salt+Stone is well positioned to continue its growth with new investment and potentially position the company for a merger or acquisition. I love their body wash.
This Week in Brand
Did you know L.L. Bean has a Giant Boot Car? If you’ve ever been to an L.L. Bean location, you know most stores exteriors are adorned with a massive, oversized version of their iconic duck boot.
But they also have a custom boot-shaped car that occasionally drives down New England delivering ‘surprise and delight’ to anyone lucky enough to cross its path. I loved this remark from a woman who witnessed the “That’s the job I want. I want to drive the boot.” I don’t care if its corny I love when legacy brands do sh*t like this. Similar to the Oscar Meyer Hot Dog Car (aptly titled the ‘Weinermobile’) I think this stunt is really a relic of an older time. Now brands just use AI or Cinema 4D to make TikToks of giant vehicular representations of their products.
Charli xcx is the Face of the New Skims Campaign. As brat summer begins to morph into ____ Fall, brands are squeezing as much juice out of this cultural phenomena as possible. Fortunately, Skims did it well, as per usual. They tapped Charli xcx to star in their latest campaign, shot by the incredibly talented Petra Collins (who just appeared on ’s newsletter)
The Skims team is often so good at keeping their fingers on the pulse of culture… previously tapping Lana Del Rey, Sabrina Carpenter, and pretty much any and every It girl to wear Skims. That’s why they’re valued at $4B.
This Week in Health
What is Magnesium and Why Is It In Everything? Just as collagen, creatine, electrolytes, and protein have become go-to ingredients in nearly every wellness product… magnesium is the latest buzzy supplement to grasp the world’s attention. But what does magnesium really do? Some doctors argue magnesium can actually be helpful for numerous bodily functions, from improving sleep to supporting healthy muscle function. And there are numerous ways to ingest magnesium, aided by our friends in the CPG world. Recess is an incredible supplement that contains Magnesium and supports relaxation.
And recently, Everlane’s founder Michael Preysman launched Magna, a powder that contains three distinct forms of magnesium to support focus, recovery, and energy. I am interested in trying that, I love the packaging design.
This Week in Music
Travis Scott released his iconic ‘Days Before Rodeo’ on streaming services. I blasted this so loud my AirPods started smoking this morning at Equinox. I f*cking love this album and it brings me back to when I was 16. But its incredible to me how many post-Astroworld Travis Scott fans haven’t heard it. So please, go listen to this masterpiece—
