Lil Uzi Vert is delivering a massively oversized cake for Marc Jacobs. Shot by creative consultant Shadrinsky. The security-cam style video shows Uzi getting into an elevator struggling to hold the cake, MJ bag slinked over the shoulder. This was to celebrate 40 years of Marc Jacobs. I love this video, its fun, weird, and very cool. I want to see more brands use this real-life feeling security cam style. Also realized she did the same style of video of girls smashing cases at The M Jewelers which I LOVED last year.
Vogue wrote about the meaning behind Nikki Haley’s Ralph Lauren Polo sweater on the campaign trail. These American flag sweaters, an RL staple, have grown in popularity with those trying to emulate the ‘stealth wealth’ or ‘quiet luxury’ aesthetic. I am presuming Haley is not trying to emulate that, but rather trying to appeal to normies in the heartland. I used to have one of these but I it was taken.
The term ‘Unicorn’ turns 10 years old! Happy birthday, I love a company valued at $1B or more. The creator of this term, VC investor Aileen Lee, went on the Pivot (I know I am such a business nerd for listening to this) podcast to discuss the rapid proliferation of unicorns across sectors. When Lee coined the term, there were only 39 unicorns, today there are over 2700. That is insane, and there are unicorns in so many niche sectors. For example, there is a company that creates software for parking garages valued at $1B+
Josh wine saw a major spike in online buzz, but did it translate to sales? Thanks to Rachel Karten of the ‘Link in Bio’ newsletter who called 15 liquor stores to ask about sales of the wine. GQ brought in sommelier’s named Josh to assess if the $8 wine was any good. Great reporting all around. I spent $150 on a bottle of wine at Casetta last week, and from now on I am bringing my own Josh wine for them to open. No corkage fee if there’s no cork!
Emily Ratajkowski is in the new Travis Scott music video. The video for Scott’s hit song ‘I Know’ which was the background song for various TikToks of people driving Range Rover’s to Erewhon last Fall, prominently features Ratajkowski, Scott, and Anok Yai. I think the video was good and it was a smart move by casting as I’m sure this video will get a ton of views due to the collaboration. I liked the split screen composition showing Scott in one frame and Ratajkoskwi in the other.
