The peer to peer rental giant misses the mark, Google's layoffs, a lab grown meat ban, Daniel Day Lewis' questionable style, Graza's new product, and Anine Bing's solo album.
I agree with the Airbnb stuff. It’s not a stunt that conveys a meaningful benefit to most people. If they want people to think “I can stay in a really cool property with Airbnb and have an experience I can’t get anywhere else” idk why this is the strategy they picked. It’s gimmicky.
Fair point on Airbnb. I kind of liked it as a brand building lever and see it as them trying to further differentiate themselves from hotels - WHERE you stay can be the destination. Industry experts have pointed to this travel mentality as a growing trend! However, 1000% agree that this won’t get them far if they don’t fix elements of the experience - no one wants a cleaning fee that’s half the accommodation cost.
It’s definitely a decent lever and I think you’re spot on with the idea of AirBnb focusing on exclusive destinations, I just wish they were most tasteful.
congrats on 6 months 🎈
thank you!

« There is a real white space here for a service that offers rentals at architecturally significant, chic homes »
I assume you never heard of One Fine Stay by Accor… so may be there is no so much of a real space for that kind of service 😅

Totally. It's definitely distasteful to launch this and not deal with the everyday experience & common customer complaints
