GM everyone. I had a fantastic weekend, one highlight being an extraordinarily long dinner at Minetta Tavern on Saturday night. The place was packed so my friend and I waited for seats the bar and drank some martinis for a few hours. I don’t mind waiting there because you can commiserate with other guests waiting to order steak frites and make a few new friends.
Let’s get into some news—
Pharrell is making a LEGO movie. The autobiographical film set in the ‘lego-verse’ (I didn’t know that was a thing) is titled Piece by Piece (ha) and will tell the story of Pharrell’s career through the lens of LEGO. The digicamo Damier print he’s been using in his LV collections (Vogue calls this Damoflouge) now makes more sense to me.
There’s so much data out there its making it hard to be a spy. Bloomberg is reporting that the vast amount of public and private data being generated by every human connected to the internet is making it hard for spies in the United States’ intelligence agencies to do their job. Many companies are facing the same issues, a treasure trove of data is great but if you can’t make sense of it all to derive actionable insights, what good does it do? It will be interesting to see how certain AI companies step up to make sifting through international data more seamless.
Jacquemus new collection is super boxy. The show, opened by Gigi Hadid, features several looks with boxy, oversized shoulders. As well as square toed flats. Is boxy back for 2024? The venue looked stunning!
Boutique hotel chain Life House has the most indiscernible copy for an Instagram caption. First off the name of this chain is TWISTED, this sounds like a Bravo show. The caption in question reads—
Contextual hotels with narrative, substance & locally-rooted restaurants & bars. Artfully designed to bring meaning to life & the universe.
The overuse of contextual and narrative is coming, soon to strip any real meaning from these words. From a consumer standpoint, who is supposed to read this and say ‘OMG I need to stay there’ Wait I might know who.
Novelty caps are HOT rn. I wrote about standout packaging concepts a few months back, one concept being to use a fun, standout cap on a packaged product like a perfume, serum, etc. I am seeing more brands execute their spin on the novelty cap. I think this is a great way to make a product stand out and feel more luxe. Here are some good examples—
Okay that’s all from me today. This week will be a great newsletter week. I have a few interviews in the works with some exciting new brands. Talk to you all tomorrow and let’s get to the bag.
