Vanessa Friedman wrote about the ubiquity of the baseball hat in American menswear for the New York Times.

While the classic baseball hat used to be reserved for going incognito at the airport, covering bedhead, or actually playing baseball; you can now find them being worn on the red carpet or runway.

GQ’s Global Style Director, Noah Johnson, chimed in on the contributing factors to the proliferation of the baseball hat—

“a more casual atmosphere, an engaged men’s fashion market and a moment of heightened individuality.”

For me, the baseball (dad) hat is the perfect way to add a splash of individuality to an otherwise calm, logo-less outfit. I have an extensive collection, ranging from restaurants, golf courses, beverage activations, etc.

So when it came time to consider the first Who Do You Know? physical product, all signs pointed in one direction…

NEWS

  • Kamala Harris’ new campaign hat looks like it came straight out of Bushwick. After announcing ‘folksy’ governor Tim Walz as her running mate, Harris’ campaign dropped a hat seemingly crafted for those middle-America, rural voters, featuring a camo base and bright orange embroidery.

Whether intentional or not (maybe Ella Emhoff is giving some tips on the merch rollout) the hat bares striking resemblance to the ironic camo hats LES and Bushwick residents have become so fond of. Harris’ team has been shockingly good at tapping into the one thing that drives awareness amongst Gen Z voters: meme culture. So this hat has to have some cultural connection to brands like Metalwoods and Friends Edition who have popularized this style amongst people who hunt for Margiela Tabis as 2nd Street instead of deer in the woods.

Lemme has been around for while, and now the Kardashian-backed wellness brand is using some magazine style art direction for their new campaign collateral. I like this inspiration, but it would have been cooler if they actually printed a magazine and dropped those in the wild or did an IRL photoshoot of people holding the magazine a la massive Jaquemus post card.

  • You have to read this interview with Mackenzie Tan, founding partner at Mouthwash Studio. An incredible new entry in one of my favorite Substack’s,

    Limbo
, this interview covers Mouthwash’ creative practice, Tan’s start, and more. Go read it!!!

  • Elon Musk is trying to win back advertisers… by suing them. In a video released by X’s CEO, Linda Yaccarino, the social media platform announced it was filing an anti-trust lawsuit against the Global Alliance for Responsible Media, alleging the group propositioned major advertisers to significantly curtail or drop spending on X. For context, X’s ad revenue slumped 54% Musk’s first year of ownership. While some brands have slowly returned, and Musk attended Cannes Lions to court them, this lawsuit is getting bashed from across the industry. While I think X’s rebrand is awful, and their public moves like this lawsuit scream of desperation, I have to disagree with tech pundits like Kara Swisher, who claim no one under 30 use X. I love X. Its funnier than its ever been. And all things considered, I’m here for the memes.
