Good morning everyone, hope you all had a lovely weekend. I spent my days off going to the Museum of Natural History to learn about evolution and see dinosaur bones, trying out Eel Bar, the new restaurant from the Cervo’s team (get the shrimp and the almond cake), and doing a lot of running.

I spoke with about my favorite ties for New York Mag’s The Strategist. I told Erika, “A great tie is more than a piece of fabric — it’s a window into the soul and a conversation starter,” and this ultimately true. I see so many people wearing dull ties that play it so safe and say nothing. The tie is supposed to showcase your personality, pulling together a suited look and providing a chance to express yourself. Go read the full article to see my recommendations on the best ties you can buy, as well as recommendations from Jason Stewart of How Long Gone, and Christopher Echevarria, founder of Blackstock & Weber.
Fellas, how slutty is your shorts inseam? Summer often brings poolside parties, beach trips, and debates on how long your shorts inseam should be. A few years ago, a 5” inseam that hits a bit above the knee seemed to be the universally accepted winner for ‘best length’ but today thats not so clear. People are getting freakier with their shorts, either going micro-short with a running length inseam, 3” or shorter, or wearing big, billowing shorts that go far beyond the knee.
Fashion tends to be this way, no universally accepted truth stays true for long. The NYT spoke with menswear legends Nick Wooster and Throwing Fits’ James Harris on the topic, “Everyone is doing everything,” For me, I don’t really want to experiment with length or bagginess, I like a nice 5” inseam, and I’d rather experiment with materials and pattern. I picked up this fun pair of Noah shorts in Cheetah (or Leopard, idk) for Summer and I love them—
Burberry is Cutting Jobs. Amidst declining sales, losing a third of its stock market value YTD, and other brand problems, Burberry is reportedly preparing to slash hundreds of jobs to stop the bleeding. I think this is a shame, considering the heritage legacy of Burberry, and I do think some of the brand direction under Daniel Lee has been great. But this is maybe a case of right direction, wrong time. People are just not interested in the brand.
Converse Showed How Brands Can Leverage Comments to Sell Products. For months, people have been begging Converse in TikTok comments to bring back the knee-high XXHi Chuck Taylor’s. The brand began seeing these comments as Y2K fashion has surged back in vogue.
While I think these are truly hideous and thought I would never have to see this shoes again, I do applaud Converse for being savvy and listening to their customer base. Smart brands should be looking to their customer wants/needs to drive product strategy. When you have passionate fans of your brand, lean in to what they’re saying they want and give them that, then use their comments as part of your rollout to make them feel included. For example, Converse could drop a video with real user comments showing on screen before revealing the shoe, or do a billboard with comments and the shoe silhouette and a simple release date.
