In yesterday’s newsletter I posed a serious question: where are the hottest people in New York?
On the surface, I wanted to know where my readers were going to find a good view, but I also wanted to explore what the hell is going on with NYC dating at a deeper level.
I created a quick survey you can still fill out here.
And the results I got were hardly representative of NYC’s entire dating demographic (the vast majority of the respondents were straight women in their 20s) but they do provide some insights into what the f*ck is going on in people’s love lives in NYC.
Let me share some of the results—
What is the Hottest Neighborhood in New York?
Winner: West Village
“West Village! So much style seen just walking around. People citi biking in active fits.”
“West Village, Nolita coming close second. People that visibly work on taking care of themselves, have taste, great style, and of course are physically attractive to me personally. Even if not though, I noticed the most magnetic and interesting people walk through those neighborhoods.”
Known for its beautiful streets, Siegelman Stable’s hats, matching Alo sets, finance bros, marketing girlies, and The Spaniard: my readers say the West Village is the perfect spot to scope out hot guys.
I’d argue the West Village is the hottest neighborhood for conventionally attractive people: a lot of Pilates memberships and bonus-funded Rolex’s.
Runner Ups: Williamsburg, Greenpoint, Dimes Square
But some of my readers are looking elsewhere for someone a little off the beaten path: a man with a mustache, Salomon’s, and carpenter pants.
“Greenpoint is my current favorite. My boyfriend and I call McCarren the horny park. Vital is the horniest (and hottest) gym in Brooklyn.”
“dimes square. unfortunately”
“Men - Williamsburg. Women - soho/nolita”
On any given weeknight McCarren is filled with hundreds of Brooklyn’s fittest people, and just based off the odds some are going to be single!
Whether you’re looking for a finance bro parked outside Fiddlestick’s, an Oakley clad runner at McCarren (golden retriever is at home and he’ll let you feed it a treat off an app), or a chainsmoking East Villain drinking cheap beer at Clandestino: we’re all cooked, ladies.
How Are You Dating These Days?
The discourse around replacing the apps with IRL experiences (run clubs) reached a peak this Summer.
Ill-fated marketing campaigns, like Bumble’s relaunch, show a growing gap between what dating apps offer and what young NYC women want.
People are growing disillusioned with swiping and want to meet people IRL.
My readers are shockingly split between using apps, meeting at bars, run clubs, and friends of friends.
What Do You Love About Dating in New York?
New York City has to have the most hotties per capita of maybe any place in the world.
And for the most part (just to live here) you have to make a lot of money— whether that be from a traditional job or being a trust-funded ‘starving’ artist.
As long as the American Express goes through— who cares?
